The Frenchman who set off a global health scare by selling substandard breast implants has been released from jail under court supervision pending a trial next year, according to a judicial source. Jean-Claude Mas, the former head of Poly Implant Prothese, has admitted using a nonmedical form of silicone in implants. Half a dozen senior P.I.P. executives will also stand trial. Some 300,000 women around the world carry implants made by the company.
