A rebuilt London theatre and a German station are among the contenders for the £20,000 Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) Stirling Prize.

Joint favourites are the America's Cup Building in Spain, Dresden Station, and Portugal's Casa da Musica concert hall.

The Museum of Modern Literature in Germany, London's Young Vic Theatre and the Savill Building visitor centre in Windsor Great Park complete the list.

The winner, picked by a five-person jury, will be announced on 6 October.

'Interesting commissions'

Riba president Jack Pringle said the shortlist presented a "fantastic range of projects".

"These ambitious projects are the very best in contemporary architecture, reflecting the work of our members in Europe as well as the UK," he said.

"Riba's best architects have long found some of their most interesting commissions in continental Europe.

"Perhaps it's up to UK clients to ensure a better representation of buildings in Britain in future years' shortlists."

The five-person Riba Stirling Prize jury will visit all six shortlisted buildings and meet for a final time on the day of the presentation to pick the winner.

Their choice be announced at the Roundhouse theatre in north London on 6 October in a ceremony televised live on Channel 4.

Previous winners include Madrid's Barajas Airport, the Scottish Parliament, London's "Gherkin" building, Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Peckham Library.
