A teenager had died after a fall at a nightclub on the first day of his holiday on a Greek island. A teenager has died after an attack at a nightclub on the first day of a holiday on the Greek island of Zante.
Jon Hiles, 18, from Cardiff, hit his head in the club on Zante and was airlifted to hospital in Athens where he was put on a ventilator. A friend of Jon Hiles, 18, from Cardiff, told how he had been punched in the face and fell from a stage.
The keen roller-hockey and ice hockey player had gone on holiday with friends to celebrate his birthday. The keen roller-hockey and ice hockey player suffered head injuries and died in hospital in Athens two days later, on the eve of his 19th birthday.
He died the day before he turned 19. His parents, Denzil and Peryn were at his bedside. A police spokesman in Greece said it was "something serious" and they were looking for who was responsible.
Karen Welsh, secretary of his roller hockey club, Cardiff Capitals, said: "He had gone to Zante with some of his friends and he was in a nightclub. Mr Hiles' parents Denzil and Peryn, his girlfriend Clare Ursell and close friend, Josh Ursell, were at his bedside when he died on Sunday.
"He had a fall and knocked his head. It was the first day of his holiday. Friends who were with Mr Hiles on the holiday have stayed on the island to help with the police investigation.

Mr Hiles, from Llandaff North in the city, had just finished college and also played junior ice hockey with the Cardiff Devils. Jason Mordecai, 19, from Whitchurch, Cardiff said they had been dancing on stage when the assault happened at a club in Laganas.
"As we were there, this guy with an English accent walked onto the stage and started urinating" he said.
"He started urinating on Jon and he [Jon] asked this guy if he was all right and as he did, this guy punched him in the face and he fell 6ft onto the floor from the stage."
Mr Mordecai said the man had "just left and run off".
Mr Hiles, who was unconscious had been taken to hospital.

He added: "We are all trying to solve what happened. We owe it to Jon to at least look for this guy and we are walking the streets day and night with undercover police to look for him."
A spokesman at Laganas police station said the incident was "something serious."
'Talented'
He said: "We have the death of a British person and we are looking for who did this."
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "Next of kin have been informed and are receiving consular assistance."
Mr Hiles, from Llandaff North in Cardiff, had represented the Great Britain roller hockey team and had also played ice hockey for the Cardiff Devil's junior team.
