Sri Lankans bat against Zimbabwe Zimbabwe boosted by double strike
(about 1 hour later)
Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene chose to bat in Sri Lanka's Champions Trophy qualifier against Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe struck twice in three overs as Sri Lanka reached 51-2 after 11 overs of their Champions Trophy qualifier.
The Sri Lankans brought in Ruchira Perera for paceman Chaminda Vaas, while Ed Rainsford was left out by Zimbabwe in favour of Tawanda Mupariwa. Upul Tharanga, who hit a century against Bangladesh, was again in fine form but Elton Chigumbura's brilliant fielding ran out Sanath Jayasuriya.
The Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium usually favours batsmen even though the Zimbabweans were shot out for a paltry 85 by the West Indies on Sunday. Anthony Ireland then saw skipper Mahela Jayawardene chase a wide one behind.
Sri Lanka saw off Bangladesh in their opener and are clear favourites again. Ruchira Perera replaced Chaminda Vaas for Sri Lanka, while Tawanda Mupariwa came in for Ed Rainsford for Zimbabwe - who lost their opener to West Indies.
