Version 0 of 1.

A mob set fire to an encampment of 35 foreign Roma in a Marseille neighborhood on Thursday night, the French authorities said. Local officials and rights groups were outraged, but there were no arrests, a police spokesman said. Residents of a housing project forced the Roma, also known as Gypsies, out of an adjacent field, the spokesman said, before setting fire to their possessions. Residents told local news media that they were responding to several recent thefts that they attributed to the camp’s inhabitants. As many as 20,000 foreign Roma are said to live in France, most of them Romanians or Bulgarians.
