Vikoras Fedorenko, of Linden Walk in Dunmurry, appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court charged with murdering Joe Souter. Mr Souter, 37, died eight days after being assaulted on 2 July in Belfast city centre. A detective told the court he believed he could connect Mr Fedorenko, who is from Lithuania, to the charge. The accused's solicitor said he had been instructed to offer Mr Fedorenko's condolences to Mr Souter's family. The detective confirmed to the lawyer that during police interviews his client maintained he was defending himself and a friend who had "seconds beforehand" been assaulted by Mr Souter. The officer also agreed Mr Souter's death was caused by an injury to the back of his head when he struck the ground and also that Mr Fedorenko only struck him once. |
