Two US soldiers have been charged with murdering an Iraqi last month near the northern city of Kirkuk, the military has said in a statement. Sgt 1st Class Trey Corrales, from Texas, and Specialist Christopher Shore, from Georgia, were each charged with one count of premeditated murder. No further details about the case have been released. It is the latest in a number of cases brought against US service personnel accused of killing Iraqis. The charges were levied after reports of "alleged wrongdoing made by fellow soldiers to military authorities". The men were assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. Their battalion commander, Lt Col Michael Browder, although not implicated in the case, was relieved of his duties "due to lack of confidence in his ability to command effectively", the military said. On Wednesday, Cpl Trent Thomas was found guilty by a US military court of conspiring to kidnap and murder an Iraqi man who was killed last year. |
