Mr Lewis, 37, who joined the newspaper last year as joint deputy editor, takes over from acting editor John Bryant who stays Telegraph Group editor-in-chief. Mr Lewis oversaw the completion of the paper's move to Victoria in central London after being made editorial managing director in the summer. He said it was an honour to take "the most prestigious job in Fleet Street". Telegraph Group chief executive Murdoch MacLennan said: "I am delighted that William Lewis is taking up the editorship of the Daily Telegraph, building on the brilliant work that John Bryant has done." Mr Lewis also worked at the Financial Times for more than eight years, where his roles included global news editor, mergers and acquisitions editor and investment correspondent. |
