Bomb blast rocks Iraqi oil city Iraq oil city blasts kill dozens
(40 minutes later)
Ten people have been killed and dozens wounded in at least one bomb explosion in the centre of the northern Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk. Dozens of people have been killed and wounded in two bomb attacks in the northern Iraqi oil city of Kirkuk.
There are conflicting reports from the area, and it is unclear whether there have been one or two vehicle bombings. Reports from the area put the death toll from the vehicle bombings as high as 80, with more than 100 injured.
The office of a Kurdish political party appears to have been targeted. The office of a Kurdish political party - the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) - and a nearby bus station were targeted by the bombers.
Police Brigadier Sarhat Qadir said the death toll would probably rise. Kirkuk police say the number of dead and injured in both attacks is expected to rise.
Witnesses to the attack on the PUK office said the massive explosion there left a crater several metres deep.
More than 20 cars were destroyed, two buildings collapsed completely and a number of shops were also damaged.
The PUK is the party led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
Meanwhile, in the capital Baghdad, a series of attacks on Monday morning killed at least nine people.
In the deadliest of the attacks, a roadside bomb hit an Iraqi army patrol on the city's north-eastern outskirts, killing five soldiers and wounding nine others.
