A British soldier serving in Kosovo has been killed in a road crash while on holiday in Greece.

Police said Brett Walmsley, 25, from Darwen, Lancashire, was killed in the Halkidiki area after being hit by a car while crossing a road on Friday.

Soldiers serving with an international force in Kosovo frequently visit northern Greece for holidays.

A 22-year-old Greek man, who works at a local supermarket, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The driver was tracked down after witnesses identified the colour of his vehicle.

Mr Walmsley was staying in a hotel in the resort of Kallithea and had been expected to return to his unit on Friday.
