Brother Alex said the case did not fit "the legislative model...applied to animals on a commercial farm".
"There is a rational approach to it which doesn't necessitate slaughter," he said, adding they were "hopeful" of a positive decision.
"If he doesn't we will consider the options of appeal, otherwise we shall be having a special religious festival to celebrate the sanctity of life."
