A man has been rescued on the Firth of Clyde after abandoning his boat when it caught fire and sank.

The Troon lifeboat was launched at about 19:30, after Clyde Coastguard received reports of a distress flare being seen.

The lifeboat crew found him drifting in a dinghy. It is thought he had been in it for some time.

The man was taken to shore suffering from smoke inhalation and suspected hypothermia.
