Naked rambler Stephen Gough was arrested 'near playpark' Naked rambler Stephen Gough denies park nudity charge
(40 minutes later)
The man known as the naked rambler was detained near a children's playpark when he was arrested last week, it has been claimed. Stephen Gough, the man known as the naked rambler, has denied charges concerning nudity close to a play park.
Stephen Gough, 53, is expected to face breach of the peace charges later at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in Fife. Mr Gough, 53, is alleged to have walked naked in a public park close to a children's play park in the village of Townhill, near Dunfermline.
It is understood he was naked when he was arrested on Friday, just days after being released from prison following a previous offence. Prosecutors said he refused to put on clothing or move away and committed a breach of the peace on 20 July.
It is alleged he refused to put clothes on or move away from the playpark. Representing himself at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Mr Gough replied "not guilty" to the charge.
Mr Gough had spent more than six years in jail after being repeatedly re-arrested outside the prison gates when he refused to wear clothes. The former Royal Marine was making a brief appearance in court on Monday afternoon.
The former marine, from Eastleigh in Hampshire, first earned the nickname the "naked rambler" by walking unclothed from Land's End to John O'Groats in 2003, after quitting his job as a lorry driver. Mr Gough chose to represent himself, having turned down the services of duty solicitor Robert Macdonald.
He was naked during the court appearance.
Sheriff Mungo Bovey QC set a trial date for 23 August. Mr Gough did not ask for bail.
