A number of guns and about £100,000 worth of cannabis have been recovered by police investigating serious crime in Ballymena and Larne.

Three people were arrested after searches of a number of properties were carried out by a newly formed tactical crime unit for the area.

An Army explosives team also assisted in the searches.

Earlier, a police spokesman said that the operation was part of an ongoing investigation.

He described it as "part of a commitment to protecting all members of the community from criminal activity".
