Boy, 2, dies after being run over

A two-year-old boy has died in hospital after being hit by a 4X4 while playing on the pavement outside his home.

Harvey Allan Patterson, of Freckleton, near Preston, Lancashire, suffered serious head injuries when he was knocked over by the Nissan vehicle.

A police spokesperson said the toddler was taken to Preston Royal Infirmary but later died.

He said the vehicle was being driven by a family friend who was leaving the Wyndene Grove house at about 1600 BST.
