Aung San Suu Kyi's doctors say she has low blood pressure and gets motion sickness easily but has no major health problems. She had similar episodes with weakness and vomiting during a rigorous campaign for parliament earlier this year. Doctors in Burma placed her on intravenous drips after travel sickness caused her to fall ill twice.
She had similar episodes with weakness and vomiting during a rigorous campaign for parliament earlier this year. Pyone said Aung San Suu Kyi has no serious health problems but weighs a mere 48kg (106 pounds), has low blood pressure and can become easily weakened by vomiting.
"I am very concerned for her health," he said. "Considering her age, the amount of travel she's doing, the time difference, lack of rest and her extremely tight schedule – it is very worrisome."
Her high-profile visit to Europe also includes stops in Norway, Ireland, Britain and France. The first day, in Switzerland, included speeches, receptions and press conferences.
At a Berne press conference, Aung San Suu Kyi looked pale and told reporters she felt exhausted. She pressed a finger to her lips and motioned to an aide who rushed to her side with a bag. She then bent over and vomited before being escorted out of the room.
She cancelled an evening dinner but resumed her schedule on Friday with a visit to the Swiss parliament.
The highlight of her trip will come on Saturday, when she will be in Norway to formally accept her Nobel peace prize 21 years after it was awarded.
The European trip is seen as a sign of gratitude to governments and organisations that supported Suu Kyi's peaceful struggle against Burma's military rulers over more than two decades, 15 years of which she spent under house arrest.
