The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals described the incident as "horrific".
Spokeswoman Doreen Graham said: "Such an attack against a baby animal would cause it horrendous fear and awful pain.
"Our research indicates that young people carrying out deliberate animal cruelty may sometimes go on to commit acts of violence against humans."
