A man has been killed and another left critically ill in hospital after a double shooting in a street in Liverpool. Armed police are on patrol in Liverpool following a double shooting in which a man was killed and another was left seriously ill in hospital.
Merseyside Police said two men were shot on Ravensthorpe Green, Norris Green, at about 01:00 BST. The men were shot in the street on Ravensthorpe Green, Norris Green, at about 01:00 BST in what police described as a "targeted attack".
Police said a man, believed to be in his 30s, died at the scene. The other man, said to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital with gunshot injuries. Assistant Chief Constable Andy Ward said firearms officers would "now be displaying their weapons overtly" in patrols of the area.
The motive for the shooting was not clear, said police. A murder inquiry is under way.
An investigation has been launched and police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them. Police said a man in his early 30s died at the scene.
The scene has been cordoned off and police are making house-to-house inquiries. Another man said to be in his 20s who was taken to hospital with gunshot injuries is said to be "serious but stable".
Mr Ward said gun crime was an issue in the area and urged people to come forward with information.
He said people's reluctance to co-operate with the police had hindered many investigations.
"In the last 30 shootings only four people involved have assisted us at all."
