Security has been stepped up at Wimbledon following the attempted car bombings in London and Glasgow.

The measures include extra police and concrete barriers to protect the entrance and exit points to the venue during the tennis championships.

"These have been introduced as part of our contingency plans for an increased threat level," said Supt Peter Dobson.

Disruptions are likely and people are advised to travel to the area using public transport.

Supt Dobson, who is in charge of policing at the venue during the tournament, said the measures are designed to provide public reassurance.

"Security at the [All England Lawn Tennis Club] for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships has been increased following the recent events in London and Glasgow.

"There will be some additional high visibility policing together with some increased physical protection measures," said Supt Dobson.

"These protection measures will include the use of concrete blockers to protect entry/exit points.

"The safety of the public remains our top priority."

The championships are due to finish on Sunday.
