Two attempted car bombings in London's West End dominate the papers.

The Daily Telegraph and the Sun praise the ambulance crew that spotted the first car outside a club in Haymarket.

The Daily Mirror says the bombs were intended to create "Baghdad-style" carnage, while the Daily Mail says nightclubs are an al-Qaeda target.

Some hope is offered by the Financial Times, which says those responsible will be tracked down through video and photographic evidence.

Flood warnings

The grim weekend facing the thousands of people whose homes have been flooded is highlighted in the Daily Mirror.

"It's not over," it warns, with the Met Office issuing severe weather warnings for most of England and Wales.

The Sun reports the bill for the floods has hit £1bn and that those evacuated now fear looting.

The Guardian says flooding is one of the challenges facing the new government. How prepared the country is to cope with floods should be scrutinised, it says.

Prisoner releases

The early release of non-dangerous prisoners to ease prison overcrowding is also widely covered.

The Times says 25,500 will be released up to 18 days early during the course of a year.

The Daily Mail claims some inmates were "gloating" as they left with taxpayers' money, to cover their living costs for the days they would have been in prison.

It quotes one man who was released 18 days early from a five-month sentence as saying: "Happy days. You don't have to do as much time for the crime."

Tesco house sales

The Daily Telegraph reports on news that Tesco is to enter the property market.

It claims the supermarket giant will offer sellers a cut-price platform to list their house for a fee of £199.

This will pay for online advertising space and a Tesco "for sale" board. Sellers will only need internet access, a tape measure and a digital camera.

The Sun argues the fee will "undercut estate agents" and that people will be able to value their own homes.
