Most of the 5,000 NI police officers suing the chief constable for trauma they suffered during the Troubles will receive compensation.

In one of the biggest civil actions ever in the UK, the total compensation bill is expected to top £100m.

In the High Court Mr Justice Coghlin ruled that the RUC and PSNI were liable from 1988 onwards because of "sytematic failures in management of the force".

Around 10 test cases were selected to represent issues common to all.

Those involved claimed they were not prepared for what they experienced and that adequate support mechanisms were not in place.
