(1 day later)
Part of the M1 in Bedfordshire has been closed by police officers following the discovery of a body. The M1 in Bedfordshire is now fully open after a section was closed by police officers following the discovery of a woman's body near the carriageway.
Officers have closed the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 10 and 11 at Luton while investigations are carried out. The woman, from Luton in Bedfordshire, is thought to have been hit by a passing vehicle on the motorway's southbound carriageway.
Police officers were called to the scene shortly after 1000 BST on Thursday after motorists reported seeing a body in the road. Officers closed the carriageway at junction 11 and traffic was diverted through Luton.
There were no further details available from the police. A police spokeswoman said the motorway was reopened in the early afternoon.
The woman has not yet been formally identified.
