A 56-year-old man is stable in hospital with a wound to the stomach after being shot by a police officer. A man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the stomach by a police officer during an incident at Ebbw Vale, south Wales.
Officers went to Moor View, Rassau, Ebbw Vale, following calls claiming a man was in possession of a firearm. Firearms officers and negotiators went to a house in Moor View, Rassau on Tuesday night after calls claiming a man armed with a gun was inside.
A shot was fired by a police officer at the scene and the man was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. There were no other injuries. A police officer later fired a shot, wounding a 56-year-old man.
Gwent Police say the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. The man is in a stable condition in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. Nobody else was injured.
Police officers, including negotiators and firearms officers, attended the incident. Gwent Police said the shooting had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) in accordance with standard procedures.
Negotiators and firearm officers were called to the scene at around 2200 BST.
Neighbours in the cul-de-sac just below the main A470 road from Ebbw Vale to Merthyr Tydfil said they did not hear any disturbance.
They said the man was recently widowed and lived in the house with his son in his twenties, while his daughter, a mother-of-three, lived in Ebbw Vale.
An area of the cul-de-sac has been corned off and scenes of crime and forensic officers remain at the scene on Wednesday morning.
