Version 0 of 1.

Police have written to 160 people with football banning orders warning them to stay away from Old Trafford as England take on Macedonia, or face arrest.

Extra patrols are being mounted around the ground, Salford Quays and the city centre ahead of the match.

Spotters will be used to stop known troublemakers and anyone without a ticket for the sell out match is being advised to stay away.

The Euro 2008 qualifier kicks off on Saturday at 1700 BST.

Refuse entry

An alcohol cordon will also be in operation and fans with cans and bottles of alcohol will be asked to throw them away.

Greater Manchester Police said any supporters turning up drunk will be refused entry to the ground.

Supt John Graves, match commander, said: "Those people with banning orders have been sent letters reminding them not to come to Manchester or they will face arrest.

"I hope the match will be an enjoyable event for everyone who attends and that a carnival atmosphere will be created by the genuine supporters who attend.

"We will not allow a small minority to ruin the game for the vast majority of true football fans."
