Title rivals Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso did not set a time during a rain-hit first practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix. Title rivals Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso set third and fourth fastest times in rain-hit practice at the Japanese Grand Prix on Friday.
Neither Schumacher nor his Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa left the pits, while Renault's Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella did just one lap each. Alonso's Renault team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella was quickest, with a lap of one minute 34.337 seconds, 0.071secs quicker than Ferrari's Felipe Massa.
The fastest time at Suzuka was set by Honda test driver Anthony Davidson in one minute 45.349 seconds. Schumacher was third fastest in his Ferrari, 0.228secs behind Fisichella and 0.298secs ahead of Alonso.
Schumacher and Alonso are tied on points with two races to go. Schumacher can win the title if he wins and Alonso finishes lower than eighth.
Schumacher can win his eighth title this weekend if he wins the race an Alonso does not finish in the top eight. The two men are tied on points with two races to go.
