Elderly woman abducted from her home in Bearsden

Strathclyde Police are investigating the assault and abduction of an elderly woman.

The incident began at the woman's house in Bearsden near Glasgow at about 13:40 on Wednesday. A man drove the woman to Milngavie shopping precinct.

When approached by police officers, he drove off at speed with the woman in the passenger seat.

The woman was found "extremely shaken" in nearby Clober Street a short time later.

The white Skoda car involved in the incident was abandoned in Birrell Road, Milngavie and the suspect made off on foot in the direction of Clober golf course.

Det Insp Alasdair Anderson said: "This has been an horrific and terrifying attack on an old lady in her 70's who is not in good health at the moment.

"Officers working on the inquiry are determined to bring the man responsible to justice."

Suspect description

The suspect is described as a white male, in his 30s, wearing dark jeans and a white top with stripes on the arm.

Police confirmed that the woman was not seriously injured.

Det Insp Anderson added: "I would ask anyone who was in the Milngavie Precinct around 14:00 today to contact us as soon as possible.

"Did you see a white Skoda car? Did you witness anything that happened in the Precinct?

"I also want to appeal to anyone who was on the Clober Golf Course area, Clober Road, Stable Place and Birrell Road areas of Milngavie today to come forward, you may have information which could assist our investigation."
