Newcastle footballer Nile Ranger denies assault charges

Newcastle United footballer Nile Ranger has denied assaulting two revellers and two police officers during a night out.

The 20-year-old Premier League striker faces counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Stephen Simpson and David Armstrong.

He also faces counts of assault by beating against two police officers.

Mr Ranger, of Forest Hall, North Tyneside, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court to deny the charges, which relate to alleged incidents on 27 August.

He is due to go on trial in the week commencing 26 June.

Judge Guy Whitburn agreed to continue the footballer's conditional bail which bars him from entering central Newcastle except when he is picked to play a home game for Newcastle United.

Ranger has played on loan with Barnsley this season but is back on Tyneside after suffering an injury.
