School closure decision reviewed
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/berkshire/6739883.stm Version 0 of 1. The way a decision to close a struggling secondary school was taken is to be placed under scrutiny. Wokingham Borough Council's decision to shut Ryeish Green School has been called in for review by a special committee of councillors. The review has been launched after opposition Lib Dem councillors claimed the ruling Tories did not give proper consideration to public consultation. Supporters of the Spencer's Wood school want to see it win trust status. Leading educational charity CfBT Education Trust is drafting a business plan for the school to be run independently. Trust status would see the school able to control its own admissions, staffing and assets. The council decided to shut the school in August 2010 and to stop new admissions after September this year because of concerns over falling pupil numbers. |
