Three people have had a lucky escape after their speedboat sank just off Portstewart harbour.

They were left clinging to wreckage in the water before being rescued by a local skipper.

Chris Little from Coleraine Coastguard, who were also called to the scene, said the boat went down very quickly.

"One of the locals who had seen this happen managed to alert the skipper of the boat SG Martin which had helped us on previous occasions," he said.

"He, of his own volition, launched, put to sea and was able to recover the three people."
