A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "Officers continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this incident and the assistance of the public is vital.
"Anyone who was in or around either McDonald Avenue or Leith Walk and saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.
"Similarly, anyone who can help identify the suspect is also asked to get in touch."
