Channel 4's documentary which examined the last moments of Princess Diana's life was watched by 3.8m viewers.

Diana: The Witnesses In The Tunnel prompted 104 post-broadcast complaints to Channel 4 and media watchdog Ofcom.

A total of 2,000 objections were received about the programme, the majority of them prior to transmission.

Princes William and Harry had asked for images of the crash scene to be cut, calling them a "gross disrespect" to their mother's memory.

Public interest

But Channel 4 ran the images in Wednesday night's programme after considering the princes' concerns against wider public interest.

The pictures by French photographers were of the August 1997 crash in Paris.

The images screened in the programme included one of the princess receiving oxygen from a French doctor, but her face was obscured.

Diana, 36, Dodi Al Fayed, 42, and driver Henri Paul were killed when their Mercedes crashed in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris as they drove away from paparazzi after leaving the Ritz Hotel.

Other pictures included the wrecked Mercedes and a view through the back of an ambulance in which the Princess Diana was treated.

Clarence House made no further comment on the programme after it was broadcast.
