IFA target racism in NI football

A new initiative aimed at getting more people from ethnic backgrounds involved in soccer in NI has been launched by the Irish Football Association.

The IFA has teamed up with South Belfast assembly member Anna Lo to launch its "Football Without Frontiers" group at Stormont.

Anna Lo also wants a new law introduced in NI to help crack down on racist and sectarian chanting at matches.

"Community relations really is an open goal for local football," she said.

"Alliance has campaigned for more than five years to see the introduction of legislation similar to the Football Offences Act in England - to ensure that all forms of prejudice can be banished from the terraces for good.

"We will be keeping the pressure on the executive to ensure that such legislation is enacted as a matter of urgency."
