Australia fast bowler Stuart Clark has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy with a thigh injury.

Clark was injured playing club cricket last weekend and tore a muscle which will take six weeks to heal properly.

Cricket Australia has yet to name a replacement and Clark said: "It is very disappointing to get an injury right on the eve of an important tour.

"All I can do is look forward and commit myself to a full rehabilitation," he added.

Clark said his main aim was to be fit for the Ashes - which begin in Brisbane on 23 November.

Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris added: "The decision was made for him to stay in Australia and undergo treatment to maximise his chances of a full recovery before the 3 mobile Ashes series."

The 31-year-old has played four Tests and 18 one-day internationals for Australia.

He was called up to replace Glenn McGrath, who was caring for his ill wife, and took 20 wickets at 15.75 in the Test series against South Africa.
