Man in court over 'date murder' Tributes to 'date murder' woman
(about 9 hours later)
A 27-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a woman who disappeared after going on a date. The family of a woman whose body was found in woodland after she disappeared on a date have said she was "loving, loyal and tremendously popular".
Karl Joseph Taylor, a football coach from central London, is accused of murdering 32-year-old Kate Beagley, from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Kate Beagley, 32, had "an uncanny way of always making those around her laugh" and was never happier than with her family, the tribute said.
A body, believed to be that of Miss Beagley but still awaiting formal identification, was found in woods at Oxhey, in Hertfordshire, on Monday. Formal identification of the body, found in Hertfordshire on Monday, is still to take place.
Mr Taylor was remanded in custody until 11 September by magistrates in Staines. A 27-year-old man has been charged with the murder of the Surrey woman.
He is then due to appear at the Old Bailey in London. In a statement released through Surrey Police, Miss Beagley's family said she was "a loving, thoughtful, dependable, loyal and tremendously popular daughter, sister, granddaughter, godmother and friend".
Missed appointments 'Sense of adventure'
Miss Beagley, of Nelson Close, had worked for British Gas for 10 years. They said she was "dearly loved" and would be missed by everyone who knew her.
She was reported missing last Thursday by her father after she did not turn up for work and missed appointments. Miss Beagley, of Nelson Close, Walton-on-Thames, was "great fun to be with" and had been "well travelled with a great sense of adventure", the statement said.
Police believe she had visited the Chiswick and Richmond areas of west London the previous night. The tourism and leisure graduate had been looking forward to two birthday trips that she had planned with friends - camping in Torquay and a city break in Barcelona.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body on Tuesday. Known for taking a pride in her appearance, she had loved music and literature, and had been an enthusiast of cycling, running and yoga.
She had gone to work for British Gas, now Centrica, as a graduate, where she stayed for 10 years, and had reached a managerial position at a national level.
'Promising career'
Phil Bentley, managing director of the company, said the tragedy had "shocked us all".
He said Miss Beagley had "with her experience and ambition a very promising career ahead of her", and was "a popular member of a close-knit team".
Miss Beagley was reported missing by her father on Thursday after she missed appointments and failed to turn up for work.
She vanished after meeting a man on a date the night before, on 30 May, when it is thought she visited the Chiswick and Richmond areas of west London.
A body was found at a nature reserve at Oxhey, near Watford, in the early hours of Monday.
Surrey Police have said the results of a post-mortem examination and formal identification are not expected until Wednesday.
Karl Joseph Taylor, a football coach from Covent Garden, central London, has appeared before Staines magistrates accused of her murder, and been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 11 September.
