Version 0 of 1.

A treason trial against Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye has resumed at the High Court in Kampala.

Dr Besigye and 10 others are accused of being members of a rebel group, which allegedly plotted to oust President Yoweri Museveni from power.

They have denied the charges and claim the trial, which resumes under a new judge after a long delay, is political.

President Museveni won a large election victory against Dr Besigye, whose challenge was rejected by the courts.

The trial has stalled for almost a year after two judges withdrew from the case.

The government has often linked Dr Besigye to the People's Redemption Army (PRA), a rebel group that was allegedly based in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Dr Besigye, the leader of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party is out on bail, but the other 10 accused are in detention also charged with murder.

They were earlier allowed bail by the High Court over the treason charges.
