Girls injured in house explosion Teenagers hurt in gas explosion

Three girls, thought to be in their teens, have been badly burned in a suspected gas explosion in a house in east Belfast. Five teenagers have been injured in a gas explosion at an unoccupied house in east Belfast.

The three injured girls have been taken to hospital for treatment. A special rescue team has been sent to the scene. Police said one of the group, which consisted of three girls and two boys, had been handling a gas cylinder at the time of the incident.
One hundred and fifty residents have been evacuated from the area.
However, the Fire and Rescue Service said they hoped to allow them to return to their homes shortly.
The injured teenagers have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Two of the girls suffered serious burns to their faces in the explosion. They are in a stable condition.
The other youths' injuries are understood not to be serious.
Fire officer Alan Fulford said about 40 firefighters and a specialist rescue team were attending the incident.
