Gwent Police said the aircraft, which was returning from Cornwall, crashed near Undy at 1550 BST on Friday. The pilot and passenger were named as William Richard Mills, 66, of Glascoed, Pontypool, who owns the aircraft, and Paul Robert Sweeting, 33, originally from Tredegar.
Part of the two-seater plane's wing ended up on a road near a Tesco distribution depot at Magor, two miles from the M4. They crashed near Undy on Friday on a return flight from Cornwall.
