The death toll puts May on course to be one of the deadliest months since the beginning of the campaign in Iraq.
A total of 104 US personnel were killed during the whole of April.
Confirmation of the latest fatalities came as the US military commander and US ambassador to Iraq joined the Iraqi prime minister on a visit to Anbar province.
Gen David Petraeus, the US commander, said good progress had been made in Anbar, which was a centre of insurgent activity and resistance during 2003 and 2004.
