A British soldier has been killed and four others injured in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. A British soldier killed in an ambush in southern Afghanistan has been named by the Ministry of Defence.
The five soldiers were from the 1st Battalion the Grenadier Guards. Their next of kin have been informed, said the MoD. Guardsman Daniel Probyn, from Tipton, in the West Midlands, served with the 1st Battalion the Grenadier Guards.
The five were hit by an explosion after clashes with Taleban forces during offensive operations in Garmsir in Helmand Province, overnight. The 22-year-old died and four other soldiers were injured when their patrol came under attack in the town of Garmsir, Helmand Province on Saturday.
Major Will Mace said: "Guardsman Probyn was without question one of the very best soldiers in the Company."
He went on: "Consummately professional in everything he did, he was one of those men who always delivered a thousand times more than was asked of him.
"He was completely dedicated to his job and to the men around him, making him both a pleasure and an honour to command."
