Details of his injuries have not been revealed and detectives said enquiries were at an early stage. Mr Longstaff was convicted of slashing a Celtic fan's throat in a sectarian attack almost 10 years ago.
He was jailed for 10 years in 1998 for the assault on a 19-year-old Celtic supporter at Bridgeton Cross.
The victim required 20 stitches and the cut narrowly missed his carotid artery and jugular vein.
Details of Mr Longstaff's injuries have not been revealed and detectives said inquiries were at an early stage.
