A holiday-maker suffered a serious chest injury and a broken knee and wrist when he was trampled on by a herd of cows.

The man, from Surrey, was attacked in fields by Clehonger, near Hereford, while walking his dog on Saturday.

His plight was spotted by people in a nearby cottage who came to his aid and called emergency services.

An ambulance spokesman said one of the cows was still standing on him when villagers came to help.

It is not clear what caused the incident.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service praised the people who came to the man's aid.
