A man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a 12-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Greater Manchester has been bailed.

The 35-year-old man handed himself into Stockport police station on Saturday after Craig Muskett was knocked off his BMX bike by a van which drove off.

The youngster suffered multiple injuries in the incident on Sandiway in Bredbury, Stockport, on Friday night.

He was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital but died a short time later.

Craig's family paid tribute to the youngster, saying that his death had left a "big gap" in their lives.

"Very special"

In a statement his family said: "Craig will always be loved and remembered by all his family and friends.

"He was a very special son. He was loved by many friends, he loved his family and was caring and happy.

"Craig's life was cut tragically short and a big gap has been left in our lives."

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened just before 1900 BST, to come forward.

The van is described as blue, small or medium sized, and had a roof rack.
