The family of an Asian man abducted at gunpoint from his home in Glasgow are still awaiting his return.

No contact has been made since Javed Mukhtar, 58, was seized on Friday night by three men from his home in Shawmoss Road, in Maxwell Park.

Police are concerned about his health as Mr Mukhtar is a diabetic and has been fasting for Ramadan.

His son Rizwan Javed, 24, said: "Our lives have been turned upside down. We want dad back safe and well."

He added: "Neither my mother, my sisters or my brothers have slept at all since this happened.

We have to get this matter sorted out and get these individuals off the streets Det Supt Willie PrendergastStrathclyde Police

"We can't eat, we can't sleep."

A shot was fired but nobody was injured and the men got away in a white van in the direction of Haggs Road.

Mr Mukhtar's three-week-old granddaughter was in the house when the men forced their way in.

Det Supt Willie Prendergast, who is leading the investigation, said: "There has been no demand to police or family. We don't know where he is.

"These individuals are individuals that give us great concern.

'Honest and respectable'

"They were armed to carry out their objective and we have to get this matter sorted out and get these individuals off the streets."

He added that police were still searching for a motive and were looking into the possibility the abduction may be a case of mistaken identity.

Local MP Mohammed Sarwar, who has known the missing man for 35 years, said he was extremely worried about him.

He said: "He has never treated anybody bad. He is an honest and respectable person.

"I think that he mustn't have been the real target. I appeal to the people who took him and I say hand on heart that he is a good man.

"Make him free, he didn't upset anybody. As time goes by, I am getting extremely worried for him. I hope there is some contact soon."
