Version 0 of 1.

A man has been killed in a crash on the northbound carriageway of the M6 in Warwickshire.

He died at the scene after his Ford Fiesta hit a bridge support near junction one, near Rugby.

The motorway was closed northbound for three hours after the crash, but has since reopened.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "Unfortunately there was simply nothing that could be done to save the only occupant of the car."

Traffic was diverted off the M6 up the slip road at junction one and then back on the other side of the junction.

The closure led to significant delays on the M6, A14 and M1 as well as surrounding roads.
