Emergency teams were still struggling to reach any people possibly trapped in the rubble. At least five other people were injured in the incident.
"We really don't know how many people could be underneath that structure at this point," police spokesman Jason Gauthier was quoted by news agency Reuters as saying. The vehicles were crushed so badly they barely came up the knees of firefighters recovering wreckage from the rubble.

Driver Manon Joly said she had just dropped off her daughter at a dance class when the flyover collapsed.
"I slowed down and then all of a sudden everything collapsed like a house of cards," she said. "There were three or four cars that plunged into the hole right in front of me."
