Woman's death in Longforgan 'linked' to crash Jane Cumming's death in Longforgan 'linked' to crash
(about 9 hours later)
Detectives investigating the suspicious death of a woman who was found in a house in Longforgan near Dundee believe it is linked to an earlier crash. Police have named a mother-of-two who was found dead at her home in Longforgan near Dundee on Friday.
Her body was found at an address on Mary Findlay Drive at about 1355 BST on Friday. Barbara Jane Cumming, 40, known as Jane, was found by police officers who were carrying out inquiries into another matter at about 1355 BST.
Two hours earlier a man was seriously injured when his car hit the back of a lorry on the A90 Perth to Dundee Road. Detectives are treating her death as suspicious and are linking it to a crash involving a 45-year-old man.
Tayside Police said inquiries were at an early stage. Mrs Cumming leaves a husband Neil, 45, and children Nicole, 12, and Claire, 11.
The injured man was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where his condition is understood to be life-threatening. A Tayside Police spokesman said the 45-year-old man who was injured in the collision was "of significant interest" to the investigation.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said: "The two incidents appear to be connected. But they said he was unconscious and in a serious condition in hospital so officers had not yet been able to speak to him.
"Inquiries are at an early stage and are continuing in order to establish the precise nature of the link." The man was seriously injured when his car hit the back of a lorry on the A90 Perth to Dundee Road at about 1100 BST on Friday.
The woman has not yet been formally identified. Det Insp Caroline Lindsay said: ''We hope that the public can assist us to this end as we seek to build a picture of events prior to Jane's death.
''In particular, we want to speak with anyone who saw Jane and or her husband prior to about 11.30 on Friday morning. Did you see them in the village that morning or in the Dundee area nearby? Did you see them the previous evening?
''If you did then please get in touch with Tayside Police. You may think that any information you have is not important to our inquiries, but please, let us be the judges of that.
"Any information, no matter how insignificant you believe it to be, might help us complete the picture of what happened.''
'Best friend'
Det Insp Lindsay added: "Our thoughts are with Jane's family at this terrible time and we are determined to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death."
Police are also keen to speak to anyone who was in a play park near the family home in Mary Findlay Drive on Friday morning and who saw or heard anything suspicious.
A family spokesperson said: ''Jane was a wonderful family-oriented person who had all the love in the world for her two girls.
"She was always there for anyone in the family and for her friends whenever she was needed and was a best friend to us all. We all miss her desperately.''
Mrs Cumming was a sales advisor with the TSB in Dundee's Albert Street.
Born in Blairgowrie, she was raised in Burrelton, where she attended the local primary school before going to Blairgowrie High School. She moved to Perth in her early 20s.
The family has lived in Longforgan for the past four years.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Monday.
