Police are asking a city licensing authority to close down a Nottingham nightclub following a shooting several months ago.

Officers want the city council to revoke the licence of The Edge on Lower Parliament Street.

Two people were injured when a man entered the club in the early hours of 9 July and opened fire.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and a firearms offence in connection with the shooting.

Nottinghamshire police argue the club's owners have ignored their own licence conditions - which included scanning customers for weapons with a metal detector.

The police said issues of public safety were being undermined and could endanger lives.

The licence hearing is scheduled for 6 October.
