Dead children's bodies examined Woman sectioned over child deaths

Post-mortem examinations on the bodies of two young children found in a house in south London are due to take place. A woman has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act after the bodies of two children were found in a house.
Forensic experts were continuing to search the property in Thornton Heath where the bodies were found. The woman and a 62-year-old man were arrested on Saturday after reports of an incident involving them and a girl aged three in a street in south London.
Police were led to the house in Melfort Road after detaining two adults seen arguing in a nearby street with another child. All three were aged under six. Inquiries led police to the house in Melfort Road, Thornton Heath, where the bodies of a boy and a girl were found.
A man in his 60s and a woman in her 20s are being questioned by police in relation to the deaths. The man was released on police bail and the three-year-old girl, who received hospital treatment, taken into care.
A member of the public alerted police on Saturday morning over concerns about the girl's treatment by the couple, police said. Forensic experts were continuing to search the property where the bodies were found.
Stable condition 'Tragic' case
The deaths, of the boy aged under six and a girl aged under six months, are being treated as suspicious.
A bus driver reported the initial incident involving the adults and the girl in the Brigstock Road area.

The youngster was taken into care and has been receiving treatment in hospital and is said to be in a stable condition. Police have not confirmed if either the man or the woman was related to any of the children involved.
The spokesman said "as a result of immediate inquiries", officers went straight to a nearby address and found the two dead children. Supt Chris Boulet, of Croydon Police, said: "Clearly this is a tragic set of circumstances.
