Police are planning to question the killer of Angelika Kluk about the unsolved case of a schoolgirl who disappeared 16 years ago.

Peter Tobin, 60, was found guilty on Friday of the Polish student's rape and murder at a Glasgow church.

The convicted child rapist lived in Bathgate, West Lothian, in 1991 when Vicky Hamilton, 15, was last seen in the town.

Her case sparked one of Scotland's biggest missing person inquiries.

It was reopened last November as a murder investigation.

The schoolgirl vanished while waiting to board a bus from Bathgate back to her home near Falkirk.

Police hope advances in DNA techniques could provide a vital clue to the identity of her killer.

Her black leather purse - found close to Edinburgh's St Andrew Square bus station 11 days after she went missing - has been undergoing analysis.

A Lothian and Borders force spokesperson said: "We announced a murder inquiry late last year into the disappearance of Vicky Hamilton and, as is standard procedure with unsolved cases, we will investigate all possible lines of inquiry."

Tobin was sentenced to a life term of at least 21 years at the High Court in Edinburgh for the sexually-motivated murder of Ms Kluk.

He had a previous conviction for a sex attack against two young girls while he was living in Havant, Hampshire.

He dumped Ms Kluk's body underneath St Patrick's Church in Anderston in September last year.
