Teenager remanded over stab death Man charged over teenager's death

A teenager has been remanded to a secure unit after appearing in court charged with fatally stabbing a 16-year-old boy. A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a teenager who was stabbed in the neck.
Mark Smith of St John's Walk was stabbed in the neck in Newcastle's West End on Wednesday evening. Mark James Smith, 16, of St John's Walk, Newcastle upon Tyne, was attacked outside a takeaway on Elswick Road in the city's West End on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court charged with murder on Saturday and was remanded into secure accommodation until Tuesday. Lee Keenan, of Charlotte Close, Newcastle, was charged with assisting an offender and possession of an offensive weapon.
A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the murder is being questioned. He is due to appear before Newcastle magistrates on Monday.
Mark was found outside a takeaway and later died in hospital from a single stab wound. A 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the same court on Saturday charged with the murder.
He was remanded into secure accommodation until Tuesday.
The dead boy had been issued with an Asbo last year but was turning his life around and had just secured a full-time job as a mechanic.
